Gerald T. Parks Memorial Foundation
Announces their First Annual Golf Tournament
Co-Chairpersons, Terri Pendleton and David Broadaway, announced on November 7, 2007 the first annual Gerald T. Parks Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament on November 5, 2007 at Regent Park Golf Club in Fort Mill, SC raised $11,000.00.
The foundation was granted 501(c) (3) status from the IRS on June 28, 2007. The Foundation was created in May 2007 in memory of Mrs. Pendleton and Mr. Broadaway?s father, Gerald T. Parks, retired Chief Petty Officer, who passed away in February 2006 from lung cancer. The organization?s mission is to raise funds for the repair and development of military healthcare facilities, as well as other needs, such as transportation for veteran?s to and from needed hospital visits.
"We are thrilled our first big fundraiser was a successful one. It was a lot of fun, and did prove to be very rewarding for all involved, just knowing we are doing something to help take care of those who have provided and protected our freedoms for decades" stated Mrs. Pendleton.
"The $11,000.00 raised at this tournament will go directly to the Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina as the hospital is renovating their nursing home to make it more home like for our Veterans. The home will be known as the Dorn Community Living Center" added Mr. Broadaway.
The Foundation is planning several charitable fundraisers that will all be annual events. The next one will be a 5K / Walk; it is slated for March 15, 2008.
All profits will go into the fund as there are no salaries ? all work for the foundation is voluntary.
